明清两代，浙东山阴祁氏家族科举兴盛、历代仕宦，文学艺术也颇多人才。据《山阴祁氏家谱》及各种文献记载，从明万历至清康熙约百年间，祁氏一门连续几代涌现了多位戏曲家，祁彪佳便为其中的佼佼者。这些戏曲家构成了祁氏家族几代人的曲家群体，织就一张曲家的血缘关系网。他们的活动形成了祁氏家族几代人填词度曲、品曲论曲、编纂曲目的文化传统，在南方一带造成了一定的影响，也给后世留下了珍贵的戏曲文献。

During the Ming and Qingdynasties, the Qi Family in Shanyin in eastern Zhejiang province excelled itself in imperial exam which produced many official figures over ages as well as in literary and artistic production. According to the family record of Qi in Shanyin, among other documents, from Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty to Kangxi reign of the Qing dynasty, a number of opera composers emerged over generations from Qi family, and Qi Biaojia was one of the leading figures. As a group, these opera composers were tightly connected by their blood kinship. Their activities over generations gradually evolve into a cultural tradition of Qi family who composes, evaluates and compiles the opera odes, which exerts considerable influence in the south and leaves valuable theatrical documents for the posterity.
