Objective To investigate clinical diagnostic value of computerized tomography (CT) examination for ventral hernia. Methods A total of 25 patients with ventral hernia which were confirmed by operations in Hebei Yutian Hospital from March 201 2 to March 201 4,were enrolled into the retrospective analysis. All patients received perioperative CT scan. The position of ventral hernia, size of sac and content of hernia were observed. Results In these case series, the results revealed that there were 3 cases of incisional hernia,1 4 cases of indirect inguinal hernia,6 cases of direct inguinal hernia and 2 cases of parastomal hernia. Hernia sac diameter <5 cm in 1 1 cases,5 to 1 0 cm in 9 cases, and >1 0 cm in 5 cases. The hernia contents were mostly the greater omentum, intestinal and adjacent tissue and organs. Conclusions Multi-slice spiral CT can clearly show the site, size and content of the ventral hernia. It is an effective examination for diagnosis of ventral hernia, providing accurate information for surgeon to ensure the operation plain sailing.
