《红楼梦》第四十四回“变生不测凤姐泼醋”是中国古代家庭两性战争的特殊画面：举凡中国古代两性层面关系的人物：丈夫、嫡妻、侍妾、情妇，都被作者聚拢在同一场景，藉由他们间冲突矛盾的生发，展现出中国古代家庭两性战争的特点及规律：战场转移下女性内部的自戕与互残。在生日宴会的喜剧性氛围里，展示出对中国古代家庭女性生命境遇的悲情思考。
