1923年，苏州工业专科学校为适应当时中国建筑发展的需要，在全国高校首创建筑科，这是中国近现代建筑教育史上一个里程碑事件。建筑科创办后，许多专家、学者及名匠来校任教，为现代中国建筑业的发展培养了很多高级实用人才，实现了晚清以来中国人创建自己的建筑学科的梦想，因而载入中国建筑教育的史册。
1923년，소주공업전과학교위괄응당시중국건축발전적수요，재전국고교수창건축과，저시중국근현대건축교육사상일개리정비사건。건축과창판후，허다전가、학자급명장래교임교，위현대중국건축업적발전배양료흔다고급실용인재，실현료만청이래중국인창건자기적건축학과적몽상，인이재입중국건축교육적사책。
In 1923, the Architecture Department was founded in Suzhou Technical School to meet the architectural development of China, which was the ifrst architecture department among the higher education institutions nationwide at that time, and was a milestone in the architectural education history in modern and contemporary China. Numerous experts, scholars and f amous craf tsmen taught in the department since its f oundation, which brought f orth lots of high-level applied talents for the development of modern China’s architecture. The department realized an architectural education dream harbored by the Chinese people since late Qing Dynasty, and became a part of China’s architectural education history.
