The type of heat treatment process is mainly determined by cooling mode.Hardening is a representative core technology of metal heat treatment,in which the most critical operation is cooling.The main and auxiliary interface models during the cooling of steel probe in a medium with physical state changes were put forward on the basis of cooling curve analysis.The relation between the physical metallurgical phanomenon of phase transformation of steel during the quenching after austenitizing and the actual cooling conditions in engineering practice were analyzed.The research status and the development trend of quenching media and cooling technologies were also briefly commented.The importance of development of advanced cooling technology and cooling equipment was specially pointed.In a word,the evolution from simple cooling model research to cooling engineering achievement will be a great progress of heat treatment.
