Due to their high efficiency and low cost,side-scanning sonar and shallow stratum profiler will be widely applied to offshore engineering geophysical detection in future. The practical application of different surface silt detection methods is introduced in detail,the merits and faults of the above detection methods are also analyzed. The analysis results show that surface silt detection system combining side-scanning sonar with shallow stratum profiler being applied to the surface silt detection of Colombo offshore seabed is of high accuracy,high efficiency and low cost. The conclusion will provide references for similar coastal engineering geological survey in the future.
