This paper presents a brief discussion on characteristics of evaporative - cooling technology,and focuses on the in-novative application of evaporative - cooling technology in the gigantic hydro - generator with a single capacity of 700MW of the Three Gorges underground power plant. The advantage of evaporative - cooling technology has been shown through conparison with air cooling and water cooling technology. Further the potential application of evaporative - cooling technology in generator -notors of punped storage plant is discussed. An analysis on proninent characteristics of generator - notor and evaporative - cool-ing systen shows that the evaporative - cooling technology could help solve the technical difficulties of generator - notor and pro-note the safety and reliability of generator - notor;neanwhile,the technical characteristics of generator - notor could help over-cone the shortconings of evaporative - cooling technology,which will be beneficial to pronotion of evaporative - cooling technolo-gy.
