南征教授为中医消渴大家，首次提出了以“消渴肾病”作为糖尿病肾病的新中医病名，在病因病机方面首创“毒损肾络”学说，在治疗方面，创立了“解毒通络保肾法”，为后辈指明了学习方向，同时为深入研究糖尿病及其并发症提供了新的切入点。

Professor Zheng Nan is a professor of the “drinking and urine” of traditional Chinese medicine. He is the first person who comes up with the drinking and urine nephropathy to be the new name in traditional Chinese medicine of diabetic nephropathy and initiates the “poison damage of renal collaterals” in etiology and pathogenesis. In treatment, he initiates the “detoxification dredging collaterals to protect the kidney”. He pointed out the study direction for the inferiors and also provide a new starting point to lucubrate the diabetes and it’s complication.
