近年来，在河南省新农村建设过程中，一些富有地方特色的乡土景观被破坏并逐步消亡，村落原有的生态格局失衡。如何在建设的同时保持新农村的乡土特色，保护和传承地域传统文化非常重要。通过对滑县锦和新城社区的深入调查，探索乡土自然景观元素、聚落景观元素以及人文景观元素在新农村规划和建设中的应用，为河南今后新农村规划和建设提供参考。
