复译将竞争机制引入同一部作品的翻译。在《孙子兵法》翻译史上，不同译者间存在着争夺读者、争夺翻译史地位的激烈竞争。前驱译者先期进入历史，代表着《孙子兵法》阐释传统，在竞争中占有优势。后世译者唯有开创自己的阐释之路，才有可能扭转迟到劣势，变被动为主动。后世译者中，加里·加葛里亚蒂从营销学角度对《孙子兵法》进行改写，由此推出的《孙子兵法与营销艺术》突显孙子谋略在营销领域的适用性，突破了前驱译者的遮护，为其赢得了《孙子兵法》翻译史上的一席之地。

Retranslation introduces competition into the translation of the same literary works. In the translation history ofThe Art of War, different translators competed fiercely for readers and for the reputation in history. The precursors symbolized the interpretation tradition ofThe Art of War because of their priority in time, and enjoyed much favorable positions in the competition. The later translators could not reverse their disadvantageous belatedness and change their passiveness into activeness unless they developed their own ways of interpretation. Among the latecomers, Gary Gagliardi rewroteThe Art of War from the perspective of marketing and publishedThe Art of War Plus The Art of Marketing,highlighting the practicality of Sun Tzu’s strategy in the field of marketing. This allowed him to break away from the covering of the precursors and earned him a position in the translation history ofThe Art of War.
