汉语国际教育重点之一就是面向海外华人华侨的华文教育，而潮州无疑是海外华人华侨最重要的祖籍地之一。作为位于粤东地区的唯一一所全日制师范本科大学，也是中国第一批、广东省第一所师范院校的韩山师范学院，依据目标对象——潮籍华人华侨的特别需求和潮人文化的地方性知识开展华文教育，由此便获得了特别的空间：背靠潮人故里，建设面向东南亚的华文教育基地。这种特殊的国际汉语教育实践正好与习近平总书记提出的21世纪海上丝绸之路建设战略构想相符合。

One key point of international Chinese Language education is to conduct it among overseas Chinese, and Chaozhou is undoubtedly one of the most important ancestral homes of overseas Chinese. As the only full-time undergraduate normal university in Chaozhou, and also one of the first batch of normal universi?ties in China, Hanshan Normal University conducts international Chinese Language education according to the target objects—the special needs of Chazhou overseas Chinese and the local knowledge of Chaozhou culture. Therefore, the university has found special developing space in this field——located in the hometown of Chao?zhou overseas Chinese, constructing a Chinese education base oriented to the Southeast Asia. Such a special educational practice fits into the strategic thinking of Maritime Silk Road Construction in the 21th century, advo?cated by Xi Jin-ping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.
