Based on a detailed on-site field survey, this paper analyzes and reflects on the present situation and existing problems of elementary education in the Kangding Tibetan Region, Sichuan. It seeks to offer a comprehensive and objective documentation of present conditions and on-going problems pertain?ing to elementary education of ethnic minorities in Western China, and also reflects truthful understanding and perspectives of those directly or indirectly impacted by the issues, such as students, parents, teachers, and government officials at various levels.
