英语新闻主要是用以报道事实和传递信息要求新闻语言必须准确、简洁、生动、平实，然而，模糊语言作为英语新闻语言的一种存在形式和表达方式发挥着精确语言不可替代的作用。在弄清模糊语言基本原理的基础上，以China Daily为语料分别从模糊语言在英语新闻报道中标题、导语以及主体三方面探索英语新闻中模糊语言的运用，去挖掘英语新闻模糊语言存在的原因。结果表明模糊词在英语报刊中频繁出现而且标题的模糊性最强，导语次之，新闻主体最后，而且只要模糊语言运用得当，非但不会影响报道的准确性，还会与精确语言相互补充、共同作用，获得绝佳效果。建议将模糊语言正确得体地运用在英语新闻写作中，使其在新闻报道中发挥重大作用。

The role English news played in reporting the facts and conveying information requires that it should be accurate ,concise ,vivid and plain in language ,however ,as an existing form and expression of English news ,fuzzy language plays an important role that cannot be replaced by the precise language . Based on an analysis of the basic principle in fuzzy language ,this paper explores how fuzzy language is ap‐plied into the headline ,lead and body of English new s so as to figure out the reason for the existence of the fuzzy language in English news reporting .And the research findings show that fuzzy language frequently appears in English news reporting and that the lead of English newspaper comes second ,after the headline with respect to the occurring frequency of fuzzy language ,and that as long as the fuzzy language is proper‐ly used in English news reporting ,it will not affect the accuracy of the report but can be a supplement to precise language .This paper suggests the proper application of fuzzy language in news reporting .
