Objective To study the vertical transmission rate of hepatitis B virus from father to infant. Method We enrolled pregnant women who tested negatively to both HBsAg and HBeAg underwent formal examination and delivery. The 100 patients whose spouses were HBV carries were assigned to the study group and the remaining 30 cases whose spouses assayed negatively to HBsAg and HBeAg served as the control group. The serological marker of HBV and HBV-DNA were tested using ELISA and FQ-PCR respectively in the venous blood of the couples and the umbilical blood. Results The positive rate of HBsAg in the umbilical blood of two groups were 0;the positive rates of HBV-DNA in two groups were 27% and 0 respectively. The positive rates did differ significantly between the two groups( P<0. 05 ) . Conclusion Based on the data found in the research, the vertical transmission rate of HBV from father to fetus is very high, but this result need further studies.
