特色是校园文化建设的生命，特色校园文化是一所学校内涵建设的外在表现。特色校园文化应具备独特性、时代性、创新性、传承性等特征。多数新建本科院校由于其办学时间不长，尚处于新建和摸索阶段等原因，存在校园文化建设无特色或特色不突出，校园文化整体层次低等不足。因此，新建本科院校在提升校园文化建设内涵和品位时，应该树立独具区域特色和时代特点的办学理念，坚持社会主义核心价值体系引领校园文化建设方向，确立校园文化内涵的特色战略，构建品位高、特色鲜明的校园文化。
