对奉节古老县名鱼复，历来有各种解释，有民间传说，也有专家解释，专家说法各异，有鳇鱼至此返洞庭说、免除徭役说、鱼凫巴人说、象形鱼肚说。本文根据鱼复中“腹”字变为“复”，探索“腹”的含义，认为“鱼腹”县名是指这里鱼多的意义。
대봉절고로현명어복，력래유각충해석，유민간전설，야유전가해석，전가설법각이，유황어지차반동정설、면제요역설、어부파인설、상형어두설。본문근거어복중“복”자변위“복”，탐색“복”적함의，인위“어복”현명시지저리어다적의의。
There are various interpretations of the origin of the time-honored county name of Yufu:some stem from folk legends and some are made by experts. The latter varies too:beluga returning to Dongting Lake from here, corvee being cancelled and the Ba Nationality evolved from Yufu. This paper, according to the change of character“腹”to“复”,investigates the connotation of the former, and holds that the county name“yufu”means the fish here are plentiful.
