The history of being capital of Jiangsu Province in the period of the Republic of China is an important part of Zhengjiang’s history. Though not long, it is a critical period for Zhengjiang’s transformation to modern. Through analyzing the urban planning and historical data of construction during the period of being capital of Jiangsu Province, clarifying the development process of Zhengjiang during the above period, it is helpful for us to understand how Zhengjiang developed from a treaty port city after the Opium War to modern provincial capital. Summarizing this phase of history and exploring its cultural context is also good for today’ s the protection of famous historical and cultural city and modernization construction.
