The development procedure of gyro compass from mechanical gyro to optical gyro is introduced, focus is the introduc-tion of the performance and advantage of laser gyroscope compass and optic fibre gyro compass, meanwhile the characteristics are pre-sented detailedly combining with study status in home and aboard, then the forecast about the mainstream application of optic fibre gyro compass in the future is made, and at last, the future application prospect is carried out.
