The compound 5 of 2-furaldehyde-indolizine was synthesized. Its structure was characterized by using IR, UV and t H NMR. The fluorescent and the influence of different transitional metal ions such as Co2+ ,Ca2+ , Zn2+ ,Cu2+,K+ ,Ni2+ ,Mn2+ ,Pb2+ on thiscompound were studied systematically. The results showed this compound exhibited a highly selective fluorescence quenching effect by Pb2+ ions, while other metal ions almost no quenching happened. The UV absorption spectra increased with the addition of Pb2+ into the solution of 2-fural- dehyde-indolizine suggesting that chemical reaction occurred between the Pb2+ and this compound. This com- pound is promising to be the probe for the Pb2+.
