Normal tension glaucoma (NTG) is defined as the clinical situation with the characteristic glaucomtous damages in optic nerve and visual field with the persistent normal intarocular pressure.NTG is a special form of primary open-angle glaucoma,but yet the mechanisms underlying the optic neuropathy remain unknown.The purpose of this review is to discuss the recent progress in the mechanisms of NTG,which includes mechanical stress,hemodynamic factors,immunomodulatory,and an improved knowledge of genetics.
