Esophageal cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide.The exact etiology for the process of carcinogenesis remains to be elucidated.Epidemiological studies suggest that multifactorial etiology plays major roles in the pathogenesis of esophageal cancer.Recently,cytokine-mediated immunity has been suggessted as one of the important mechanisms in the carcinogenesis of esophageal cancer.Studies on the association between cytokine gene polymorphisms and esophageal cancer may provide evidence for the pathogenesis,prevention,control and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma.
