Characteristics of silica sol were introduced. Preparation methods of silica sol were summarized, such as ionic exchange method, electro dialysis method, colloidal chemical method, dispersion method, and so on. The influence of pH, diameter of silicon particles, promoter and other factors on the stability of silica sol were analyzed. Meanwhile, research prospect of silica sol as binder was also forecasted.
