The Smad family of proteins is important mediators of the transforming growth factor-beta(TGFβs)family of cytokines,jointly charges with the regulation of cell growth,differentiation,and apoptosis process. It is mainly constituted by eight different proteins and plays a key role in regulating the function of a variety of signal transduction pathways through reversible phosphorylation,exercising excitatory and inhibitory effects. This review discusses Smad protein regulating mechanism.
