历代类书，就其处理材料的方式而言，大致不外乎两种：一是摘抄型，二是组纂型。摘抄型类书编者只对旧籍进行节录，组纂型类书编者则用自己的语言串连旧籍中的典故、辞藻。摘抄型或接近于书钞，或接近于词典。组纂型有对子、诗歌、赋、散文诸种文体。

@@@@In terms of how source materials are arranged , the classified books can be divided into two main categories , the cop-ied and the compiled.While the copied just selectively quote phrases or passages from the sources , the compiled, with their editors'words, unite those disconnected source material .Among the copied, some appear like abridged copies , while the others are similar to dictionaries.The compiled have various literary forms:antithesis, poetry, rhyme prose and prose.
