For improving the voltage quality of domestic distribution network, as FSC has never been used before, this paper puts forward a new research topic of distribution-fixed series capacitors (D-FSC). The basic principle of D-FSC in improving the voltage profile of radial distribution line is simply analyzed and the structure chart of it is introduced. D-FSC’s two features of self-adaption to variable load and real-time response, and two main effects of improving the voltage distribution along the line and decreasing voltage sag degree are expounded, and the effectiveness is verified using example analysis. The method to determine the location and capacity is introduced. Overvoltage protection design scheme, and precautions against ferroresonance and induction motor’s self-excitation are proposed. The function of D-FSC’s controller is presented. By the survey from electric power market, D-FSC has a good application prospect in domestic distribution network.
