In order to adapt to the increasingly severe environmental pressure and industry standard, alkylation desulfurization technology arises at the historic moment. In this paper, the mechanism of thiophene alkylation desulfurization was introduced as well as the typical alkylation desulfurization process and basic requirements of appropriate acidic catalysts. The typical alkylated sulfur transfer catalysts and their catalytic properties were reviewed. The industrialization status of thiophene alkylation technology at home and abroad was discussed.
