Various heating and cooling systems on a campus are compared by an energy simulation method. The heating and cooling loads are calculated in detail. Three thermal energy system options are compared and discussed, including individual cooling and heating sys-tem (ICHS), district cooling and heating system (DCHS) and district cooling and heating integrated with ground source heat pump (DCHS&GSHP). The case study shows that the energy consumption of DCHS is lower than that of ICHS. DCHS can reduce the initial cost for central plants and improve the energy efficiency of the system. Integrating DCHS with ground source heat pump shows a great potential in en-ergy saving.
