This paper gives a concise introduction on the concept and framework of geodesign, and cites a real world case study as an implementation example. It starts by examining geodesign in historical context, fol owed by a discourse of its key concept. Geodesign is not a new discipline but a new integration effort aided and enabled by GIS technology, leveraging and col aborating on conventional fields, spanning from planning, through landscape architecture, to design. It’s a powerful means to reach the goal of ameliorating or even saving the environment. Geographical y sensitive planning and design is the foundation of any geodesign activities, and as its core framework, four parties and six iterative processes are identified and explained. To illustrate its concept and framework, a recent geodesign example in urban planning is presented to show case its development and application.
