The dissolution of quaternary-ammonium gemini surfactants C12-s-C12·2Br(s=2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12) in heptane needs 1-hexanol as cosolvent. C12-s-C12·2Br and 1-hexanol form the mixed reverse micelles resulting in their dispersion in heptane. The critical moles of 1-hexanol na required to dissolving ns mol geminis in no mol heptane can be calculated from the formula na = ano + bns. The corresponding coefficients a and b are respectively 0.0266, 6.05(s=2); 0.0191, 4.39(s=3); 0.0225, 2.98(s=4); 0.0298, 8.49(s=5); 0.0377, 3.95(s=6); 0.0148, 6.66(s=8); and 0.0153, 12.7(s=12). b inflects the average molecular number connected to per surfactant molecule and exhibits different variation laws with s being odd or even. The latter was attributed to larger bend for odd s than even s, which reduces the head area occupied on the core surface of the reverse micelle and thus attracts more 1-hexanol molecules incorporating into the reverse micelles. C12-2-C12·2Br molecule has relative minimum head area in the series and needs more 1-hexanol aid-dissolution.
