The recent advances in anode electrocatalysts for direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC) were reviewed. The influences of the modification of the rare earth on the methanol electrocatalysts were sumarized. The dispersion of noble metal was accelerated, at the same time, synergetic effect of the rare earth were described. Prospective approaches for further studies were also suggested.
