Helical coordination polymers have attracted great interest in coordination chemistry for their practical implications in multidisciplinary areas, such as optical devices, biomimetic chemistry, asymmetric catalysis chemistry, chiral resolution and structural biology. Herein the construction methodologies of helical coordination polymers using five and/or six-membered N-heterocyclic bridging ligands were briefly reviewed. The significant influences of self-assembling metal cations with chiral bridging ligands on forming chiral helical coordination polymers were discussed. The prospect of helical coordination polymers was also illustrated.
