This article summarized the research survey that the influences of rare earth element Nd on the microstructures and mechanical properties of various casting magnesium alloy and analyzed the roles of Nd in various casting magnesium alloy, such as purifying, refining, alloying and fine grain, solid solution, aging precipitation and dispersion strengthening. It also forecasted the research and application prospect of rare earth elements in casting magnesium alloy.
