The planthopper tribe Parahiraciini, belonging to the family Issidae, superfamily Fulgoromorpha and order Hemiptera, now comprises 12 genera and 29 species in the world. In this paper we systematically reviewed the taxonomic study of the tribe Parahiraciini. A identification key to the genera in the tribe and a checklist and distribution of the species of Parahiraciini in the world were given. We also discussed the taxonomic traits, common apomorphies and distribution pattern of Parahiraciini. All members of the tribe Parahiraciini are nearly restricted to the Oriental region. The most distribution of Parahiraciini in zoogeographic region in the world is the Oriental region (28 species, 96.55%), the Palaearctic-Oriental region only one species (3.45%). The biodiversity of Southwest China is most rich in the world(13 species, 44.83%). It is shown that Southwest China could be the centers of distribution and origin of Parahiraciini.
