This article describes the almost 40 years’ development of Changzhou Ivory Light Engraving, which has experienced different modes, from Village-run Enterprise to Township Enterprise, to Contract System, finally to the Art Studio founded by the inheritors. It explains that the effect shown from the depiction of lines by using knives in Changzhou Ivory Light Engraving is characteristic of both the charm of Chinese painting and the strong attraction of knife-carving. Under the leadership of Yang Xuefang, the new generation of inheritors is emerging, the representative of which is Xiao Jianbo, Master of Chinese Arts Craft. They have inherited the traditional light engraving art and developed the modern light engraving art, whose works are awarded in the international and domestic competitions. They are leading Changzhou Ivory Carving to a higher level.
