理雅各翻译《尚书》采用了异化翻译策略,保存了原文古奥词汇和灵活多变的句式,描摹了原文的语气语调,再现了原文的文学意境,其异化翻译是成功的,有利于文化的传真.但其中的过度异化以及翻译中的一些理解偏颇、误译以及将个人的宗教信仰强加于异国文化,导致“文化失真”,却是其翻译的“美中不足”.

@@@@Foreignization was adopted by James Legge in the translation of Collection of Ancient Texts .The archaic vocab-ulary, diverse sentence structures and the tone in the original text have been well retained.The translation is successful in faithfulness.However, his over pursuit of faithfulness, his misunderstanding of the original text and his own religious belief be-ing imposed on the Chinese culture leads to the distortion of his translation, hindering western readers from knowing the Chi-nese culture correctly.
