Quantum dots (semiconductor nanocrysta1) were tiny light-emitting particles on the nanometer scale. As a new type bio-logical labeling dyes,nanoparticle probes had better spectral features and optical stablity. The progress in quantum dot synthesis, its spectroscopic and photoelectronic properties,and its potential application to life science were reviewed.
