The research progresses of chemical intumescent flame retardants for polypropylene(PP) were reviewed. The flame retardant effects of the inorganic synergistic agents and novel charring agents in the intumescent flame retardant PP system containing ammonium polyphosphates(APP) were introduced. The applications of novel chemical intumescent flame retardants in PP were summarized.
