By analyzing the historical evolution in the middle reaches of the Tarim River,this paper introduced the river patterns,river characteris-tics,variation of river regime and the engineering layout principles of river regulation. Several key nodes on the river bend protection,including functions of cut-off projects,engineering layout and structures,were emphatically introduced. After several years of operation and observation,the constructed projects almost reached the goals of comprehensive treatment,which including realignment of normal condition based on consideration of flood and low water;guarantee the safety of water conveyance dikes,the flood delivery capability and the stable mean-water flow path.
