3D laser scanning technology has advantages in collecting three-dimensional point cloud data from the surface of the scanned objects with high efficiency and precision. So any small changes of objects`surface can be reflected accurately. It used this technology to overcome the limi-tations of common measuring methods in topographic survey of sediment erosion and deposition. It saved much time and manpower with holding the measurement accuracy. Meanwhile,with the help of various post-processing software,it provided more comprehensive and diverse way of data anal-ysis and presentation,like drawing contours,contrast of scouring and silting,calculating sand discharge capacity and so on.
