葫芦岛药王庙井水温观测始于上世纪九十年代，于2007年进行数字化改造，观测资料连续可靠。通过对水温多年资料的研究，分析典型震例，并利用基于gIS的地震分析预报系统等，排除日常观测干扰，找出水温同震效应及水温前兆异常的表现形式及规律，总结深井水温的映震效能。
