The present bleaching technology of stain and pulp were introduced. The bleaching activity and potential application of six classes of bleaching catalysts, including manganese salts, manganese-triazacyclo?nonane complexes, manganese Schiff-base complexes, manganese cross-bridged macrocyclic complexes, manganese complexes with polypyridineamine ligands, and iron complexes with pentadentate nitrogen-donor ligands were discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of these catalysts were summarized.
