高职教育的本质是培养符合社会需求的应用型人才，只有在培养了具有较高职业能力的基础上，才能引导学生加强职业素质教育。外贸英语具有频繁使用贸易术语、缩略语，一些普通英语单词在外贸英语中具备了特殊含义等特点。学校对外贸英语教学要求学生必须系统牢记贸易术语及固定句型的翻译，正确理解普通词汇的特定含义，对英语行文中关键短语必须掌握。对外贸英语的翻译则要求学生做到保持商务信函特有的风格，精确传译，实现信息等值转换，做到精确、习惯、得体。
