隐喻的标志性特征是本体和喻体既相异又相同。从意识活动的视角来看，隐喻的本体、喻体在意识感受性上具有同一性，这为隐喻的产生提供了可能性；隐喻研究中的同一性是一个连续统的概念，大致分为相同的同一性、相似同一性、相应同一性和相关的同一性，借此进一步为隐喻的认知分类提供一个新的视角。
