清末，伴随报业的兴起，报载小说风起云涌。受报刊这种新媒介的制约与影响，小说叙事发生了一系列的新变。这种新变主要表现为，报载小说在不同程度上带有报纸的新闻特性，诸如小说叙事的时效性与纪实性、政论倾向、新异趣尚、地域意识等，因而与古代小说相比，报载小说呈现了一种崭新的时代艺术风貌。

In Late Qing Dynasty, along with the rise of newspaper industry, novels published in in?stallments are riotous. Limited and influenced by the this new type of medium, novel narration experi?ences some changes, which shows some news feature of the newspaper in a degree, such as the time?liness and documentary feature of novel narration, the political tendency, new and different fashion and regional consciousness. Compared with ancient novel, novels published in installments show a brand-new artistic style of the era.
