语块在不同的文献里有不同的术语，国内外不同的学者从频率、功能、意义、构成语块词的数量等角度提出了不同的定义，但忽视了文体对定义语块的重要性。通过比较日常英语和法律英语两种不同的文体中语块文体特征发现，词的组合在某一文体中是语块而在另一种文体中可能不是，语块在不同文体里的密度不同，同一文体里出现的频率会不同，不同文体里的语块实现的话语功能会有很大的差异。这些表明，文体应视为定义语块的重要参数。

Lexical chunk is indicated with different terms in different literature ,and is defined from dif‐ferent perspectives such as frequency ,function ,meaning ,number of constituent words .These defini‐tions ,however ,neglect one important factor ,i .e .style .The stylistic comparison of lexical chunks in everyday English and legal English suggests that a sequence of words may constitute a lexical chunk in one style ,but might not in another style ,that the density of the same chunk differs in different styles , that the frequency of the same chunk differs in different styles ,and that lexical chunks in different styles fulfill different discourse functions .Therefore ,style should be taken into account when a formu‐lation of lexical chunks is offered .
