传统医药等领域的传统知识在巨大的利益驱动下，不断受到被窃取、盗用或不当利用等现象的威胁。为了更好地解决这个问题，世界各发展中国家纷纷出台政策。印度的传统知识数字图书馆（TKDL），是一个成熟的传统知识保护数据库，成为较为典型、成功的案例可供各国传统知识，特别是中医药传统知识保护借鉴。
