境界体现参禅者见地及悟道程度，是判断参禅者见性与否的标准。从《六祖坛经》看神秀作偈、六祖作偈回应之以及六祖听五祖讲解《金刚经》后大悟，可知二者之见地及其参修境界：著相之凡夫，理无碍、事无碍之未彻悟者，理事圆融之彻悟者。
경계체현삼선자견지급오도정도，시판단삼선자견성여부적표준。종《육조단경》간신수작게、육조작게회응지이급육조은오조강해《금강경》후대오，가지이자지견지급기삼수경계：저상지범부，리무애、사무애지미철오자，리사원융지철오자。
Whether a Zen practitioner obtains wisdom and reaches enlightenment can be decided by the level of his enlightenment realm. From Teachings of the Sixth Patriarch,the wisdom and Zen meditation level of both Shenxiu and the Sixth Patriarch can be seen,through the accounts that Shenxiu writes verses to challenge the sixth patriarch and how he gets the feedback,and that the sixth patriarch reaches his enlightenment after attending the teaching of the fifth patriarch on Vajracchedika-Sutra. It is seen that while one,an average man who has not yet reached his enlightenment,the other,in terms of both truth and secular affairs,has embraced his thorough under-standing.
