Homophones are a common and interesting linguistic phenomenon,which are widely used in litera-ture,advertisements,etc. This paper firstly analyzes the applications of homophones,and then explores their rhe-torical effects of novelty,humor,vividness,sarcasm,conciseness,etc. to help readers better understand the lin-guistic phenomenon and play its greater role in the learning and applying English and Chinese languages.
