Summarizes the research progress of the heat and salt resistance mechanism and rheological properties of xanthan solution. But low biological stability,easy to heat oxygen degradation and high cost limit its application. To promote the application of the heat resistance and salt-tolerant type of xanthan sys-tem in oilfield development,xanthan was reviewed with adding additives,crosslinking reaction and hydro-phobic modification.
