科学论文中，情态动词的使用广泛。情态动词的使用体现了作者评价他人学术观点、邀请读者互动、建立社团身份的努力。通过建立小型语料库的方法，论文考察了9个核心情态动词在3大类学科论文中的分布特点，以比较学科论文的评价特征。调查显示，人文科学的论文中情态动词的使用频率远高于社会科学和自然科学，这与三类大学科本身的内在属性、研究对象和知识结构本身有关。从情态动词的类型看，认知性情态动词的使用频率远高于责任性和意愿性情态动词，这体现了科学论文的互动性、评价性、多声性等特征。

Modal verbs are widely employed in the scientific academic papers for the purposes of evaluating the ac-ademic viewpoints , engaging the readers and building identity in the social community.This paper , by using cor-pus method , seeks to study the distribution of 9 core modal verbs in academic papers among the three disciplines , i.e.natural science , social science and humanity.It shows that , modal verbs are more densely distributed in hu-manities papers than in social science and natural science papers.And epistemic modal verbs are more widely used in academic papers than deontic and obligatory modal verbs.A tentative interpretation is also presented for the sta-tistic findings.
